I Love You Philip Morris

August 30th, 2010

Jim Carrey plays Steven Russell. A gay man who hides his true desires until the point of a car accident. Living his life as a gay man from that point on, one thing leds to another and he is in jail(you will love the way he got there:D). There he meets Philip Morris, played by Ewan McGregor, and they both fall in love with each other.

All I have to say is, this movie is hilarious! So funny, so well written. I just love it! I could never have believed if someone told me that I was going to like that film as much as I do. I mean, it has been some time since we saw Jim Carrey playing in a good film. Well, I say it was about time. And Ewan McGregor, oh boy, was he great as Philip Morris. There is not much to say really, its just a great comedy.

Although, on the internet many people disliked the movie for the fact that it has gay sex scenes. Especially for the part when the character of Ewan McGregor gives a bl****b to Jim Carrey on a boat and then spits the cum on the sea. Now, wouldn't you watch the film JUST for that one scene?!

I will be honest with you. I am a straight man, but boy did I love the romantic relationship between Steven and Philip. It was sweet! I hate romantic comedies, I despise them. This, is the only Romantic Comedy that I like, and for good reason.

Don't miss the opportunity to watch this movie. It's easily one of the best comedies i've seen in years.

I Love You Philip Morris gets a 8/10, great stuff.

P.S. As I mentioned I'm straight, but boy would I do Ewan McGregor in that film.

2RK

June 30th, 2010

I just wanted to make an announcement about a thing that i am currently working on.

It is called 2RK and it will be a graphic novel centered around a devastated world 500 years after it's destruction from nuclear explosions. 500 years after the fallout the world was able to rebuild itself, but still has to live under the terror of the mutants. The radiation transformed a lot of men, women and children into mindless savage beasts, unnatural creatures that could no longer be called human.

The protagonist of this tale is a person who walks between the thin line of human and mutant, trying to find ways to delay his fate, which is his transformation into a mutant himself.

This is the first summary of the story and I must mention that the writing for the graphic novel has just began, so there will be a lot of changes to be made.

That's about it, stay tuned for updates.

Kevin Smith's Dogma

June 28th, 2010

Dogma is a film by Kevin Smith, centered around two angels trying to win their place back to heaven after they were banished from the land of god.

Many people claim that Kevin Smith always goes for the same film "formula", making the same comedy over and over again. After watching Dogma, my reply to those people is "What?!". Kevin Smith is a unique artist, and you can see that in Clerks., Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and especially in Dogma.

I seriously find it hard to write about this film, it's just so unique. It's well written, well directed, and well acted. Everything works with it and as a whole is one of the most original, daring films I have ever seen.

It gives you that vibe that even if Kevin Smith changes and fools around with the entire bible, he is a man of faith. I don't know how that happens, but I believe if someone else was to do something similar, it wouldn't work out the way it did. Not to say that being a man of faith is the right thing to do, Christianity for the win and that kind of stuff, no. I am just saying that Kevin Smith is not trying to just make fun of something that he things is stupid and meant only for laughs.

He doesn't laugh with religion is what I am saying. Kevin Smith is a comedic genius, Dogma is proof of that.

Firefly & Serenity

January 16th, 2010

Firefly is a TV series that lasted for only one season, from 20 of September 2002 until 28 of July 2003. Only fourteen episodes were filmed.

So what? you will ask. Many bad TV shows have failed in the past, why should we care about this one? Let’s see… Oh I got it! Because it wasn’t a bad one, and it was much more than a good one, it was a GREAT one!

The creator of the series is a guy that many of you might be familiar with, Joss Whedon. He is also the creator of Buffy the vampire slayer, a show that was “pretty” successful. Of course he was also one of the four screenwriters of the first Toy Story, and the screenwriter for Alien: Resurrection. But enough with the prologue, let’s talk about Firefly.

Space Cowboys

Malcolm Reynolds is an ex-sergeant who participated in the war as a member of the Independence against the Alliance. Now, a Captain of a small transport spaceship called Serenity. His crewmates are Zoe, former fellow army veteran who is now his first mate. Hoban Washburne, the pilot of the ship and Zoe’s husband. Jayne Cobb, the “fire-arm” of the crew, and Kaylee Frye, the ship’s mechanic.

The crew’s job is a kind of “Jack of all trades” one. They transport goods, they smuggle, and they often scrap pieces out of abandoned spaceships to resell them, simply putted, outlaws.

In the first episode the Serenity crew has to transport a cargo of refugees. A shepherd called Book, a Doctor named Simon Tam and a third person which the name I can’t recall. I am not going to tell you the whole episode don’t worry, just the set up for the rest of the series. The third person appears to be a fed of the Alliance and the crew finds out the Doctor brought his sister onboard trying to save her from the Alliance federation that is after her for, at first, mysterious reasons.

In the end shepherd Book, Dr. Simon Tam and his sister River Tam become members of Reynolds’s crew, for the short, but entertaining as hell, adventures of the spaceship Serenity.

I mention “Space Cowboys” at the title, and by now I am sure you are wondering why that is. That’s because of the setting, a futuristic space exploring adventure with many Western references. For example, many guns that the characters use are based on the Western era, same goes for their cloths. Malcolm Reynolds in particular wears a Cowboy outfit more or less.

I know it sounds odd, but it somehow works. Trust me, there is even a scene were in a desert, Malcolm rides a horse and tries to catch up with a spacecraft. Did you get the picture?

Too short

It is. At first when I got the box set with the complete series I though that I would have some fun watching a “good” mini-series and also though that fourteen episodes were Ok, it’s not like it will be THAT good. Well, it IS! And god I want more. I mean, it’s so much fun. Yet, I can’t say that it had potential, because their was not any in the traditional way, the series is 10 stars piece of awesomeness from the very first episode, the very first.

Turning the geek mode off, I have to mention one more issue before I proceed with our next subject. Their was no end to the series, you could easily tell that It was cancelled and not finished. The main plot which is finding out what they’ve done to Simon's sister, River, was never completed in the series. The fourteenth episode is just another episode, not an epilogue or anything close to that.

So what did we get?.....

Serenity

Serenity is an almost two hour’s motion picture telling the story that we never got to see in the original Firefly series, the truth about River Tam’s condition. What they have done to her brain and what she is capable of.

I will be honest with you, Serenity had all the potential to be a complete failure. It tells a story that was meant to be told in episodes, a TV saga. So they had to completely change the way the story was going to be told, and of course they did. So does Serenity do well? Yes, oh boy YES!

I will not lie to you. Serenity is one of the best sci-fi movies that I have ever seen, just like how Firefly is one of the best sci-fi Shows I’ve ever seen. It’s just that good.

I will not say anything more about Serenity, not even a single detail about the plot. You know why? Because it is a movie you have to see for yourselves and get sunk into it.

WARNING! I got your attention with the warning thing didn’t I?

WATCH FIREFLY FIRST!

Not because the movie doesn’t stand on its own. It is a sci-fi masterpiece as it is, but if you want the ultimate experience, if you want to have multiple orgasms of sci-fi Epicness you must know the origins, the set up.

And so the Ratings are:

Firefly is a 9.5/10 {Astonishing}

Serenity is a 9.7/10 {Astonishing}

Synopsis

Get the f*** out of your house, go to the nearest blockbuster and rent Firefly. Watch it, return it and get Serenity.

Daybreaker and The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3

January 8th, 2010

I went with my brother and his wife to watch Daybreakers, a sci-fi vampire action movie written and directed by the Spierig Brothers. It was fun. It had a good opening sequence where we see a vampire girl killing herself by getting exposed to the dawn. Good way to start the film i will admit, but the story doesn't seem to hold much after some point. The plot goes like this, In the future Vampires are the ruling spieces of the earth and the humans are getting "blood-farmed" for the vampires to feed themselves.

Ok,it is a good idea and I have to say the film is well directed, but... there is always a but. The plot after twenty or so minutes feels ruther "rushed". And for a setting like this you can't rush things too much. This "last stand of the human race" has been done a few times, and the best example is The Matrix, and in the Matrix the plot never feels rushed, like they had to go a bit faster so the movie wouldn't be too long. Daybreaker is one and a half hour!, not enough for a setting like this is all i am saying.

I don't think there is much more to say, if you like vampires and science fiction you could spend your money to a cinema ticket. If you have already seen the film you will tell that I haven't said much of the plot, like what happens when vampires don't drink blood, and I did that because I think there is no need to. Oh and by the way before I finish with Daybreakers I should mention this "ONE" character that shines in the movie. Lionel 'Elvis' Cormac played by Willem Dafoe, he is by far the coolest thing in the movie.

Daybreakers is a 6.9/10 {PRETTY GOOD}

Daybreakers is over, we head home, its only 8:30, what do we do? Well, let's watch another film. We take a look at the five rented movies that sat beside the TV. The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 sat silently on the pile of rented movies. I heard many negative reviews about this movie and to be honest I was in a dilema, should I or should I not watch this film? Will it worth my 2 hours or so of my worthless life(this is a joke, at least I hope so:'(), and so I in the end watched the Taking of Pelham 1 2 3.

First thing I liked about this film, how it starts. Straight to the f**** point! I've seen a lot of "terrorists taking hostages and ask for money" movies, and most if not all of them have this opening sequence where you see them preparing the entire operation, and then you get to see them going to the location and.... OH COME ON, GET TO THE F**** POINT! In the Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 the movie begins with the Character of John Travolta and his subortinates entering a subway train taking hostages asking for ransom, this takes 10 minutes or something, straigh to the point, I loved it.

Another thing I liked about this movie, which I think is the element that really works in here, is the dialoug. Please applaued for Brian Helgeland for giving us such a great screenplay, and such a marvelous dialoug. Seriously, you will have to LOVE the conversations between Walter Garber(Denzel Washington)and Ryder(John Travolta), and don't let this over reaction in the dialoug make you think that the rest of the film doesn't live up to it.

People complained that the 2/3 of the movie where we see the two characters talk to each other where just great, but the problem was the last third where we have a chase of time for the main character to stop the bad guy from escaping. People said that we've seen this in many action movies and in many of those other movies it was done much better.

Ok, i accept the latter, but why are you complaining about the chasing and the whole third act of the film, IT'S AN ACTION MOVIE, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT? The guy who has been through the mess the bad guy created will eventually try to stop him, that's common sense! And! even though I will agree that other movies have better chase scenes, in this movie the chase scene has something special and unique to it. You don't get to see the athletic figure running up and down the streets, but a 120 kilos overweighted man, and the scene is still GOOD, not just good. It actually has more to it than a normal chase scene, you get to see the struggle of an everyday - man who would never imagine when he woke up and put his shocks on he would be running down the street with a gun in his hand and the FBI BACKING HIM UP while he is trying to stop a mad man from escaping with 10 million dollars after taking hostages on a subway train.

Where am I going with this? There is no "going down the hill" at the final third act of the film. It's just a very very good film from beginning to end. Can't say i was AMAZED by it, but i can say I was entertained A LOT, and when i say a LOT i mean, A LOT.

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 is a 7.5/10 {VERY GOOD}
